ॐ जय शिव ओंकारा आरती – Lyrics
Lyrics follow the most widely sung version. Regional variations exist.
Om Jai Shiv Omkara Meaning
The aarti hails Shiva as Omkara, who holds Brahma, Vishnu and Sadashiva within him and carries the goddess as half of his own body (Ardhanarishvara).
The verses describe the three deities together: one face, four faces and five faces; seated on the swan, Garuda and the bull; with two, four and ten arms. Their garlands of rudraksha, forest flowers and skulls, the sandalwood and musk that adorn the auspicious Bhole, and their white, yellow and tiger-skin garments show three faces of a single divine truth.
Holding the kamandalu, chakra and trishul, the Lord is the creator, sustainer and destroyer of the world. The ignorant see Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva as separate, but in the sacred syllable Om all three are one. Whoever sings this aarti receives the fruits they wish for.
