Jai Ambe Gauri Meaning

Ambe Gauri, the fair and the dark mother, is meditated on day and night by Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva. Vermilion shines in her hair parting, a musk tilak on her forehead, and her bright eyes and moon-like face are beautiful.

Her body glows like gold, she wears red garments and a garland of red flowers. Riding a lion and holding a sword and skull-bowl, she removes the sorrows of gods, humans and sages who serve her. She destroyed Shumbh-Nishumbh, Mahishasura, Dhumralochan, Chand-Mund, Raktabeej and Madhu-Kaitabh, freeing the gods from fear.

She is Brahmani, Rudrani and Kamala, praised by the scriptures and queen of Shiva. The sixty-four yoginis sing auspicious songs, Bhairav dances, and drums play. She is the mother and sustainer of the world, with four arms in the gesture of blessing. Whoever sings her aarti receives happiness and prosperity.
